Mike Rogers is the founder and president of the San Diego Junior Tennis Association SDJTA, designed to introduce children to the sport of tennis. He received the USPTA San Diego Division Community Service Award. His cooperative coaching style has been honed over twenty years of developing, teaching and promoting tennis for adults and juniors. He was the coach for the USDHS (University of San Diego High School) Boy's Varsity tennis team, and holds the CIF title for 2000.
Mike attended the Tennis Technology Program at Nationally Ranked Tyler Junior College, where he earned a diploma in Recreational Leadership and Teaching with Steve Smith as his instructor and coordinator. In 1985 he taught for Harry Hopman at Saddle Brook Resort in Florida.
Mike believes in emphasizing a player's strenghts to instill confidence and poise both on and off the court.
'I believe players learn more, feel better and, most importantly, have more fun when they focus on what they do best' says Mike. 'If you have a killer backhand, that's where we'll begin and how we'll build your best game together'.
He was the longtime Director of Tennis at the Handlery Swim and Tennis Club in Mission Valley until they closed their doors. For five years Mike was the Resort Pro at La Casa Del Zorro in Borrego Springs, while (still)teaching at Balboa Tennis Club in San Diego, his 'favorite courts'.
Mike has worked with Vic Braden in Sylt, Germany coordinating adult tennis programs, and is still collaborating with him at some special events. Vic in his last book dedicated to Mike:
